What is Celtic salt ?
Celtic Sea Salt (also known as sel Gris or Grey Salt) is an unrefined sea salt hand-harvested from the coastal marshes of Brittany, France, using traditional 2,000-year-old methods.
Often called Sel de Guérande, it is still produced today by skilled salt farmers in the same time-honoured way. Unlike regular table salt, Celtic salt retains its distinctive natural grey hue and moist texture. This comes from the clay lining of the salt ponds and the traditional, incomplete evaporation process, which preserves a rich array of trace minerals including magnesium, calcium, potassium, and zinc.
With its strong, clean salty flavour, Celtic Sea Salt is an excellent all-purpose substitute for ordinary table salt and works beautifully in a wide variety of dishes. Note that due to its high residual moisture content (it is naturally hygroscopic), it is not suitable for use in salt mills or grinders.
